Circular Economy

The circular economy is inspired by ecological systems. It is an economic model aiming at decoupling economic growth from resource (material, energy) constraints, by extension of product life (refurbish, remanufacture, repair), extension of resource value (recycling) and efficient use of energy and material (rethinking, repurposing). It lowers the pressure on the environment, creates local low and high-skilled jobs and new business opportunities.

Our Team

Chantal Block

Chantal Block is Co-founder & General Manager of 2C Ecosolutions. Previously, she was professor at the Industriële Hogeschool Groep T, Leuven, now University of Leuven (1978 to 2012), and associated professor at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Leuven (2006-2014). She did research in the fields of Environmental performance and Sustainability of industrial activities: assessment and improvement; Applied life cycle analysis (LCA) and Waste treatment and management, and taught among other courses, Environmental technology and Sustainable engineering.

Carlo Vandecasteele

Carlo Vandecasteele is professor emeritus of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (1990- 2015), where he taught among other courses, Environmental technology, Industry Indaver, KeppelSeghers, BMC, Feniks Recycling, Afvalzorg Nederland, Sibelco, ArcelorMittal, Aclagro, Carmans, Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij. and sustainable development and Recycling and energetic valorization of waste. His research was on Integrated waste management, Materials and energy from waste, Resource recovery and recycling and Environmental performance and sustainability of industrial activities: assessment and improvement. A significant fraction of this research was in collaboration with industry in Belgium and abroad and with international associations. He authored more than 330 scientific articles and was invited speaker on many international conferences. He is member of the External Sustainability board and of the SRI (Social Responsible Investment) Advisory board of KBC.
